Full Abstract:	This white paper cites medical literature that document specimen error rates and their patient safety consequences, and profiles several hospitals that have reported patient safety and sample management improvements by implementing bedside specimen labeling. It explains the rationale for labeling samples at the point of care, explains how these processes can satisfy JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) and HIPAA requirements, describes the bedside sample labeling process and provides an overview of what to look for in mobile sample labeling systems.
