Congonhas Airport Selects Zebra Technologies Visibility Solution to Improve Safety and Operations

Brazilian airport is using Zebra RFID/RTLS technology to address real-time ramp access control, improve monitoring of assets, staff and management while reducing costs

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – April 25, 2018 – Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), the market leader in rugged mobile computers, barcode scanners and barcode printers enhanced with software and services to enable real-time enterprise visibility, today announced that it is collaborating with GTP-EazyComm and the Brazilian airport operator, Infraero, on a GPS sensor-based system to monitor and control ramp access at Brazil’s Congonhas Airport. The innovative solution tracks all vehicles and personnel on the ramp in real time so that aircrafts are attended at the right time with the right resources. This solution speeds up baggage claim for passengers and eliminates the chance of baggage delay and/or loss, resulting in an enhanced passenger journey and better customer service.

  • Infraero selected GTP-Eazycomm and Zebra to design a Real-Time Location System (RTLS) that includes Wi-Fi networks, Zebra GPS tags, Location Sensor antennas, WHERENET® products and software. This tracking and RFID combination, using WHERENET and GPS tags, is Zebra’s innovative solution made for airports worldwide.
  • The RTLS solution ensures that airport managers make better use of resources, reducing costs and risks by streamlining data in real time such as driver access control, license to operate at ramp, vehicle tracking, and speed control monitoring.
  • Internal operation control and improved ramp operations data are displayed via a real-time dashboard that displays key performance indicators (KPI), enhancing safety at work and reducing the number of vehicle collisions.
  • Zebra’s WHERENET RTLS is capable of being read from more than a kilometer away, enabling businesses like Congonhas Airport to track assets and personnel across a large yard or facility.

Luciano Baptista da Silva, Engineering Staff, Infraero

“Previously, access to restricted areas was done manually by physically checking and verifying individuals but now we have automated control over ramp access. Zebra’s innovative technology allows us to obtain information in real-time about the precise location, speed, condition and movement in the yard helping avoid collisions, while also issuing alerts in cases of access by unauthorized people to areas of risk.”

Vanderlei Ferreira, General Manager, Zebra Technologies Brazil

“Zebra delivers real-time visibility and location solutions that optimize workflow efficiency to our customers worldwide. The collaboration with Infraero and GTP provides Congonhas Airport with a valuable RTLS solution that allows airport personnel to sense and analyze ramp operations, resulting in greater efficiency and a safer environment for passengers.”

Luis Araujo, CEO, GTP-EazyComm

“After identifying the key pain points at Congonhas Airport, which were personnel identification and ramp safety, we knew the best choice was to partner with Zebra because of its strong global brand reputation and leading RFID solutions.”
