Issue / Question
What to do when 'Ribbon Out' error is displayed?
ZD420T and ZD620T
Resolution / Answer
The ZD420 and ZD620 printers have a user interface which provides basic operating status including the Supplies indicator:
The Supplies Indicator notifies the operator of the need for replacing printing supplies (labels, receipt paper, transfer ribbon, etc.) when prompted.
A 'Ribbon Out' condition will occur when the end of the ribbon roll has been detected, a missing ribbon cartridge, or the ribbon cartridge needs replaced to continue printing when the printer is in thermal transfer mode.
The Supplies Indicator will blink red for a Ribbon Out condition as seen below:-
ZD420 and ZD620 printers should be using genuine Zebra® ribbons that have a ribbon out trailer (reflector) to stop printing when roll of transfer ribbon has been used up.
Genuine Zebra® ribbons and ribbon cores also include notches used to maintain positive ribbon roll engagement and drive without slipping while printing.
