Calibrating the Ribbon Sensor on the Value Class and ZXP Series Printers

This article describes the process for calibrating the ribbon sensor on specific card printers. This may help:

  • Correct false "Out or Ribbon" errors
  • Solve the print of blurry or "ghost" images on the cards

Overtime, the ribbon sensor may no longer detect the panels properly. This causes color panels not to transfer to the card at the right time, causing blurry or images with shadows (called mis-registration) to print. In some instances, the ribbon may be detected at all possibly giving an "Out of Ribbon" error.

It is recommended to follow this procedure ONLY when you are having print quality issues or false "Out of Ribbon" errors.


First we need to make sure printer has communication with the driver and ribbon is being detected properly.
