Question

How to Bypass Kiosk Mode When the MK20xx Boots?

Facts

MK20xx

Answer

When the MK20xx is booted in Kiosk mode, the desktop and configuration files are not accessible on the device. The desktop is locked down by the kioskeie.exe that runs as a full screen application.

You can prevent the MK20xx from booting into Kiosk mode by pressing the A and D buttons during Phase 1 of boot up.
  1. When the MK20xx boots up it will first display the IPL screen, then a screen of colored horizontal lines, followed by a blue screen that says “Phase 1”.
  2. When the Phase 1 screen comes up, quickly press the A and D buttons simultaneously.
  3. You will be prompted to enter a password, which by default is DDBAC.
  4. After the password is entered, click the OK button on the screen or press the A and B buttons simultaneously.
  5. This will bypass Phase 2 of boot up, where the customized configuration settings are loaded, preventing the MK20xx from booting into Kiosk mode.
  6. If the Phase 2 screen is displayed before the A and D buttons are pressed, you must reboot the device and start over again.
