How to Enable or Disable the Lamination Option

Article ID: 15568875

This article explains how to enable or disable the lamination option on specific Zebra Card printers

Applies To

  • Zebra Security models P520i, P630i/P640i, and P720i
  • Zebra ZXP Series 7 and Series 8 with laminator option

When installing a printer, the driver may default the laminator to be either off or on. Users may choose to disable this feature to prevent laminate films to be applied to the card (or enable if the option is off). Some things to keep in mind:

  • If you are printing a color card (color printing uses dye sublimation process), you will need a varnish overlay or laminate patch to protect the image on the card. Without a laminate patch or varnish overlay, the ink will tend to migrate out of the card and the image quality will deteriorate very quickly. Read More>>
  • The P630i/P640i and ZXP Series 8 printers do not support ribbons with an Overlay varnish. Such ribbons do not exist and the drivers will not offer them as an option when selecting the ribbon type. Therefore, unless using a monochrome resin ribbon with these printers, the laminate patch is recommended.

The laminator can only be enabled or disabled in the printer's driver only; it cannot be done on the printer's LCD. To access the printer's driver:

  1. Go to the Start MenuPrinters and Faxes (Windows XP) or Devices and Printers (Windows 7 & 8)
  2. Right click on your printer and select Printing Preferences

For P520i/P720i printers:

  1. Select the Laminator Settings option
  2. Remove/Change the selection from the Laminate Front or Laminate Back option in the window
  3. Click Apply and then OK
