Question

How to Retain a Partnership through a Cold Boot On a Pocket PC Device?

Facts

Windows Pocket PC 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003 devices

Answer

ActiveSync partnership is lost and must be re-created after the device is cold booted (hard reset). The unit is set back to factory defaults after a cold boot.

Use a registry file to automatically reconfigure the device if it is cold booted.
  1. Create a new text file with notepad.
    • [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Ident]
      "Name"="Symbol_MC9062w" ; The name or device ID
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners]
      "PCur"=dword:00000001
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners\P1]
      "PName"="HOST PC NAME" ;The name of the partnered PC
      "PId"=dword:489463EF
  2. Paste these registry settings into the file.
  3. You can modify the values for the PC name and the device name.
  4. Save the file as partnership.reg
  5. Connect to the device through ActiveSync.
  6. Click the explore button in ActiveSync, and then browse to the Application folder of the device.
  7. Drag and drop the partnership.reg file into the Application folder.
  8. The partnership settings will be retained through a cold boot.
