How to Tell What Radio Type is in a Telxon Device
Facts
Telxon Device
Answer
Fact
Telxon RF units come in 4 major types:
1. Direct Sequence ( DS ) 900Mhz.
2. Direct Sequence ( DS ) 2.4Ghz TMA ( pre-802.11 spec ).
3. Frequency Hopping ( FH ) 2.4Ghz.
4. Direct Sequence ( DS ) 2.4Ghz 802.11
Telxon units are available with various versions of RF radios and there is some confusion as to how to tell which particular radio is in a particular unit.
There are two simple methods for determining what radio type is in a particular Telxon unit (without opening the unit and physically checking):
First Method: Check the RF configuration of the Telxon unit’s current software load.
Second Method:Determine what type of AP the customer is using with this Telxon unit.

There are two simple methods for determining what radio type is in a particular Telxon unit (without opening the unit and physically checking):
First Method: Check the RF configuration of the Telxon unit’s current software load.
- Access the Application software’s (usually VT or 5250 emulation) configuration menu.
- Access the RF settings in the Configuration menu.
- If the RF settings call for an SSID (SSID NOT SID), then the unit has an 802.11 radio.
- If the RF settings call for a HOPPING SEQUENCE, then the unit has an FH radio.
- If the RF settings call for a Bitrate & Frequency setting, then the unit has a 2.4 Ghz DS (pre-802.11 spec) radio.
- If the RF settings call for a channel setting, then the unit has a 900 Mhz DS radio.
Second Method:Determine what type of AP the customer is using with this Telxon unit.
- If the customer is using the Arlan AP-630-900 or Arlan Air I/O UAP-E– 900 Access Points, then they have 900 Mhz DS radio technology.
- If the customer is using the Dataspan DS2410 access points, then they have 900 Mhz DS radio technology.
- If the customer is using the Arlan AP-630-2400 or Arlan Air I/O UAP-E– 2400, then they have 2.4 Ghz DS (pre-802.11) radio technology.
- If the customer is using the Arlan Air-I/O UAP-E (2.4 FH) or the Arlan AP300 access points, then they have a 2.4 Ghz FH radio technology.
- If the customer is using Aironet AP-4500, Aironet AP4800, Cisco 340, Cisco 350 or Cisco 1200 Access Points, then they have 802.11radio technology.
