This happens because the card sensor in the magnetic encoding station is not properly detecting the edge of the black card.

To resolve the emitter level of the card sensor in the magnetic encoding station must be increased to a value of 180 or greater.

Follow these steps to increase the emitter level of the card sensor in the magnetic encoding station.

1. On the windows system go to either "Printers and Faxes" or "Devices and Printers"
2. Right click on the windows driver and select "Properties"
3.Click on the "Device Settings" tab
4.Click on "Tools" then "Properties"
5.In the "Command to send to printer" box enter "+EP 3 0" then click the "Execute" button to the right. This will display the current value of the magnetic encoding station card sensor emitter value in the "Printer Status:" box
6. Increase the value of the magnetic encoding station card sensor emitter to 180 by entering "+EP 3 180" in the "Command to send to printer" box then clicking on the "Execute" button. The "Printer Status:" box will display "<ACK>"
7. Try encoding a Black card. If the card fails to encode repeat steps 1 thru 6 and increase the value by 10. The maximum value is 255
