Symptom

QLn220, QLn320, and QLn420 printers not recognized on network when placed into an Ethernet connected docking cradle

Applies To

QLn220, Qln320, and QLn420 with an Ethernet board option

Note: QLn series mobile printers that contain the onboard Ethernet option can be recognized by the presence of the letter 'E' in the tenth position of the printer's PCC code. This code can be found near the bottom of the serial number sticker on the underside of the printer. The following is one example:

QN3-AUBA0E00-00

Cause or Overview

The printer may not be making reliable contact with the docking station cradle contacts

Solution

If a QLn220, QLn320, or QLn420 series mobile printer with on-board Ethernet support is not being recognized on the wired network when placed into a network connected Ethernet cradle, insure that the cradle contacts on the underside of the printer are free of any residue. After removing the docking cradle access cover to expose the cradle contacts, make sure that no glue residue remains on any of the gold contacts. If some residue does remain, remove it with a soft cloth or alcohol swab before inserting the printer into the Ethernet cradle.
