Setting Power Save Mode for the RF Network Card on a Mobile Printer

Article ID: 21392239

Details

Description

Changing the power save settings to disable a network card from staying constantly awake or enable it to always be active

Applies To

All Zebra Wireless Mobile Printers

Requirements

Ability to develop and send a command or file to the printer, ZDesigner Driver installed, or Zebra Setup Utilities installed.

Overview

The Power Save mode affects power consumption of the network card in the printer. Ping response times are also influenced by this setting.

Procedure

The following CPCL command sets the power save:

! U1 setvar "wlan.power_save" "best" - Choices are: "off,1,2,3,4,best"  (for the Qln and iMZ read Note 2 below)

"off" would indicate the printer is in the Constant Awake Mode (CAM).

One can also modify this parameter using the Label Vista utility.

  • In CAM the printers battery will not remain charged as long as a printer using a Power Save mode.
  • Ping latency would be more evident in a printer NOT in CAM.

Note:After the command is set ensure the printer is powercycled if not the change will not be made.

This command can be sent using the Zebra Setup Utility (Open Printer tools, click on the action tab and choose "send command" )

Note 2: The QLn and iMZ "wlan.power_save" parameter only have two states, “on” and “off”. Zebra’s mobile printers have used many wireless radios over the years and model series'. As technology changes, radio manufacturers add features and improved functionality. Selecting any numeric value will set the state to "on"
