Description

Procedure describes testing the Mag Encoder option through the printer driver

Applies To

  • Zebra Value Class printers with Mag Encoder option: P100i, P110i / P110m, and P120i
  • ZXP Series 1 and ZXP Series 3 printers with Mag Encoder option
  • Zebra Value Class, ZXP S1, and ZXP S3 after Mag Encoder option was added

 

Requirements

  • A USB or Network printer driver needs to be installed Read More>>
  • High or low coercivity cards
  • User may need access from local administrator

 

Overview

Users may need to test the Mag encoding option for the following reasons:

  • To make sure the option works independently of any application
  • Users added the Mag encoder upgrade kit and need to verify option works

 

Procedure

For Value line printers:

  1. Place the card(s) in the printer's feeder as stated by your printer's user's manual
  2. You will need to access the Printing Properties section
    1. From Windows XP: Go to Start> Settings> Printers and Faxes. Right click on your Value Class Printer and select Properties
    2. From Windows 7: Go to the Windows Icon> Devices and Printers. Right click on your Value Class Printer and select Printer Properties
  3. Select the Device Settings tab
  4. Click on Tools and then on Properties

  1. Under Direct Encoding, type the information to encode following ISO standards. Read More>>
  2. Click Encode to encode the data onto the card
  3. Click Eject Card to get the card out of the printer
  4. To validate the data was encoded properly, place the card back in the feeder, clear the track values, and click Read; the values encoded should be displayed on each track
  5. Click Eject again to get the card out of the printer

 

For ZXP Series:

  1. Place the card(s) in the printer's feeder as stated by your printer's user's manual
  2. You will need to access the Printing Preferences section
    1. From Windows XP: Go to Start> Settings> Printers and Faxes. Right click on the ZXP Series 1/Series 3 driver and select Printing Preferences
    2. From Windows 7: Go to the Windows Icon> Devices and Printers. Right click on the ZXP Series 1/Series 3 driver and select Printing Preferences
  3. Click on the Encoding tab
