There are two ways to define the EPC tag data in Zebra Designer Pro, for XML, & MySAP.  For the purpose of this exercise, the variable field has been set up prior to set up of the RFID tag. The most common method is to provide the EPC data in a HEX format for the given EPC data field.

Procedure:

1. Select the EPC type.  In this example I have chosen EPC (class 1) Gen2 96bit.

2. Select the EPC Data Field

3. Select Variable and a pre-defined variable.  In this example I created a variable field that is 24 characters

The software also allows one to define the structure of individual fields in the EPC data and add variable data for each field.

Note:   ZPL cannot concatenate data into a ^FN variable field on the printer, so the software must be running at print time.  This mean this feature will only work from Zebra Designer Pro.  Even though Zebra Designer for XML and MySAP will allow the user to set this up and the test print will work.

1. Select the EPC type.  In this example I have chosen EPC (class 1) Gen2 96bit.

2. Select the EPC Data Field.

3. Check the box “Use EPC encode”

4. Select the Encoding Type and define corresponding fields.

5. To use a Variable for a field, check the Variablebox  and select the pre-defined variable.
