What Are NEMA Enclosures?

NEMA stands for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association.

  • NEMA Enclosures house electronic devices such as Symbol’s Access Ports and Access Points for protection against environmental conditions of the location in which they need to be placed.
  • Due to the many regional and local regulations regarding electrical and environmental concerns, Symbol does not specify which enclosure models to use.
  • Using the AP size and temperature specification of the system being installed, contact a local contractor or supplier regarding installation. They should know the industry and regional rules. If local regulation allows, the non-Plenum Access Ports may be put into clear top enclosures, allowing visual access to their indicator lights. Be sure to check that the internal enclosure size is suitable to include power supplies, as well as, antenna and network connection cable runs if needed.
