Overview
The cutter option on the printer allows a user to print and cut labels in batches or as individually controlled cuts based on the application needs. A Cutter Module is mounted on the front of the printer and is connected via mechanical linkage to a drive motor. When signaled to cut, the drive motor rotates once causing a scissors cutting action at the module that cuts the label. The Cutter Option can be field or factory installed. It must be installed by a Zebra Authorized Technician.

The printer prints a label and moves it to the cut position. The cut position will be the detected gap for Non-Continuous media (if Continuous media, the specified label length). The cut is performed and the label then retracts to position the leading edge of the next label under the printhead for the next print cycle. The cut cycle and backfeed take about 1 second to complete.

The printer must be configured for Cutter Mode to cut labels. There are several methods that may be used to set the printer to Cutter Mode and will depend on your application. Read More>>

The printer will cut after printing each label unless configured otherwise via the application or ZPL commands. There is limited batch control cutting via drivers/application software. Use of specific ZPL commands does allow for more dynamic cut control. Read More>>

Common Issues and Resolutions

Problem Resolution
Cutter Jam Error

When a cut cycle is initiated a timer will look to assure the cutter blade has completed the cut cycle within a specified time. Any problem that impacts the movement of the cutter blade may delay the cycle time. If you cannot identify an obvious issue with the cutter such as an obstruction, try cleaning the cutter. Read More>>

Set the Backfeed to BEFORE PRINT. This will prevent the media curl when sitting for any length of time. Read More>>

Cutter does not cut in the correct location.

The cut position is determined by printer calibration. It can be fine tuned by using the Tear-Off value that can be configured from the printer LCD Display or from your application **Driver/Software.

Assure the printer is properly calibrated to produce accurate label to label cutting then adjust the Tear-Off value until the labels are cutting in the correct location.

Partial or incomplete cutting

Make sure the cutter module is clean and properly secured. If this is verified the cutter module may need replacement or a timing adjustment. Consult your service options

Cutter cycles on power up or error recovery but not after printing.

Assure the printer is configured for Cutter Mode. Assure your driver/software configurations match your printer settings.

** Note: Driver/Software configurations send commands to the printer and will override the LCD Display settings.                 Always assure your Driver/Software settings match the printer configurations to avoid conflicts.
