Symptom

Cards are not feeding into printer when a print jobs is sent to printer.  Card remains in feeder cage or card hopper.  You may receive an "Out of Cards" error.

Applies To

Zebra Performance Class Printers (P330i, P330m, P430i), Zebra Value Class Printers (P100i, P110i, P110m, P120i), and Zebra ZXP Series 1 and ZXP Series 3 Card Printers.

Cause or Overview

This can be caused by numerous issues ranging from the the card thickness selection for the printer being incorrect in the feeder gate, the feeder roller not turning and feeding the card, or in a lot of cases, the first card is not pushed into the print assembly. 

Solution

Make sure that the first card in the stack of cards installed is pushed into the printing mechanism from the feeder gate or card hopper.  If it is not, the roller may be turning in an attempt to grab the card, but may not find enough friction to properly grasp it.  Also make sure to fan or separate cards in a stack before installing them in the printer to ensure they are not sticking to each other.  After doing this with the first card, the rest should feed properly.

Check the feeder gate.

  • Confirm the thickness of your cards and make sure the feeder gate is adjusted for the correct card height. If the gate is set too high, two cards might feed at the same time causing a card jam. If the gate is set too low, the gate will prevent any cards from feeding into the printer.

Check the feeder roller(s).

  • Remove all cards from the feeder and send another print job to the printer. One or more of the rollers (depending upon your printer model) should rotate when you send the print job.  If you find that the roller(s) in the feeder cage won't turn when you send a print job, the printer may need to be repaired.
