Zebra Card Printer Printhead Cycling Up and Down When Powered On

Article ID: 27920817

Topic or Information

When powering up your printer or in some instances, after printing a panel or card, you may see the printhead cycle up and down.

Applies To

Zebra Performance Class Printers (P330i, P330m, P430i)

Why the print head keeps cycling up/down

The print head will cycle up and down randomly under one of two conditions.

1.  After powering the printer on.
2.  Between or after printing a panel or card.

This failure occurs because either the printer can no longer detect the position of the print head, or the DC cam motor no longer has the strength to hold the U-support in the raised position. It is likely that either the DC cam motor or the daughter board of the printer may be malfunctioning.
