Article ID: 88376922

The symptoms include:

  • Status LED on print server takes longer than 1 minute to go solid Green.
  • Printer is slow to establish a wired network connection
  • The printer does not acquire a DHCP address with in the first minute after boot up.
  • Unable to ping the printer's IP address after the printer has been powered on for longer than 1 minute.

 Applies To

Zebra Printers that have the ZebraNet Print Server II or the ZebraNet 10/100 Print Server options.

Cause or Overview

Host devices, including ZebraNet wired print servers, may be slow to establish link when connected directly to some Cisco switches. This will result in it taking over one minute for the print server to establish a connection to the network.
This problem will not occur when an unmanaged switch is placed between the print server and the Cisco switch.

Modify the Cisco switch configuration for the interface that the print server is connected to using the “switchport host” command. This will enable portfast on that interface and prevent spanning-tree topology updates from occurring which will result in the printer connecting to the network faster.
