Description

Version 1.02.

Device Compatibility

This device supports any host system up to classic Bluetooth protocol version 2.1 for both Human Interface Device (i.e. USB HID wireless keyboard) and Serial Port Profile (i.e. wireless RS232 serial DB9 com port).

Release Notes

Version PAABCS00-012-R00B1

1.     This product software was updated to support new hardware.

NOTE 1: The old software (i.e. <= 011, <= PAABCS00-011-RXXB1) does not support new hardware. The model number on the scanner has not changed to distinguish between the old hardware and the new hardware. In light of this fact, if a user tries to load or do a live update of old software (i.e. <= 011, <= PAABCS00-011-RXXB1) onto new hardware then when the user pulls the USB cable the scanner will sound 5 short hi-beep tones, and the LED will blink red 5 times. See the LED Indications and Beeper Indications tables in the latest revision of the PRG under “Failed software download” in the User Interface Definitions section. Also see NOTE3 below.

NOTE 2: The end user needs to manually start old software (i.e. <= 011, <= PAABCS00-011-RXXB1) when doing a live update of this old software over new software (>= 012, >=PAABCS00-012-RXXB1) on a scanner with old hardware. See the table below in NOTE3. The reason for this is the old software fails to completely load a component of the flash file system needed by the new software, so it fails to automatically boot after the live update. If a user already loaded new software on old hardware and wishes to go back to old software (i.e. <= 011, <=PAABCS00-012-RXXB1) then please follow this procedure to manually start the old software.

1.     If after copying the binary file onto the CS3070 drive and unplugging USB, if the scanner fails to respond and appears locked up then do the following:

a.      Remove the back cover and locate the recessed reset button on the lower right backside of the scanner.

b.     Using a modified paper clip or needle type tool, press and release the reset button, to manually start the old software.

c.      After pressing and releasing the reset button, press and release the plus key at least twice. The scanner will wake-up and begin normal processing executing the old software.

See the Troubleshooting table in the Maintenance and Troubleshooting chapter of the latest PRG under the Problem column that states “Scanner is unresponsive after performing a live update software download”. This same procedure is listed.

NOTE 3: The following table shows the hardware/software compatibility with this release of 012-R00 CS3070 product code (i.e. new software). Also the two notes in the text above technically should never happen. A user should never have to load old software onto new hardware, and if a user already loads new software on old hardware they should rarely ever have to go back to old software. These notes are provided for the very remote possibility that a future user performs these tasks.

Old Software

Old software will be updated on the scanner but will not automatically boot after a live update. User MUST press reset button to start old software.

NOTE: An end user should never really have to load old software if new software is already installed on the scanner.

Scanner will not allow old software to be loaded on new hardware. Scanner will sound 5 short beep tones and the LED will blink red 5 times after attempting live update. Only new software ((i.e. >= 012, >= PAABCS00-012-RXXB1) can run on new hardware.

NOTE: An end user should never have to do this.

Old software is backward and forward compatible on old hardware.

New Software

New software will be backward and forward compatible with new software on old hardware and will be updated on the scanner

New software will always be backward and forward compatible on new hardware regardless of the software already loaded.

New software is backward compatible with old software on old hardware and will be updated on the scanner

2.     In this software if a user sets the CONFIG.INI file to Read ONLY, then if any parameter barcodes are scanned the scanner will issue an error beep (i.e. Low to High Long Beep tone) and prevent an update of the parameter. This is telling the scanner that the user does NOT want anyone to tamper with the configuration settings of the scanner. In order to change configuration settings in the scanner a user MUST make the CONFIG.INI file writable.

NOTE: The default file access attribute for the CONFIG.INI file is Read/Write. A user would have to consciously set the file access attribute on the CONFIG.INI file to Read ONLY.

Installation

Read the ReadMe.txt file on how to load this firmware onto a CS4070 scanner.
