Question

How Do I Upgrade MC50 Images via USB Connection by Using TCM?

Facts

MC50

Answer

USB option does not show up as one of the selectable choices when using TCM to upgrade MC50 images.
TCM does not detect USB connection dynamically.

USB connection must be setup and established before invoking TCM.
  1. Disable ActiveSync or any other running programs on the host PC from listening on the USB port.
  2. Connect the MC50 cradle to the host PC via USB.
  3. Boot MC50 into IPL mode (hold both scan buttons and the power button, then press the reset button on the back).
  4. Once in IPL mode, place the MC50 into the cradle.
  5. Your host PC should detect a new USB hardware device.  Point to "C:\Program Files\Symbol\TCM2\USB Driver" when asked for driver files.
  6. On the MC50, click on any partition you wish to upgrade.  The MC50 should then go into download mode and wait for the download.
  7. Start TCM, and click on "Load Terminal", you will see the new USB option in addition to the COM ports in the protocol list.  Select the USB option as the transfer mode, and then select the HEX images to download
