Symptom

When using a card printer connected to a USB 3.0 port, such as the ZXP Series 3, the printer may display one or more of the following behaviors:

  • Error message during print jobs such as "COMMAND ERROR" or "-Data Timeout-"
  • Driver error stating "Read/Write" issues or "Command Error"
  • Inability to access printing preference or properties

Applies To

Card Printers with a USB Interface

Solution

If a USB 2.0 port is available on the same computer, plug the printer into this port instead of the USB 3.0 port.

If no USB 2.0 port is available, a USB 2.0 hub may be required. After plugging in a USB 2.0 hub, connect the printer to the hub.

If the printer still has issues after being connected to the USB 2.0 port/hub, go into the printer's properties, click the Advanced tab, and try changing the "Spool print documents so program finished printing faster" settings. If set to "Start printing immediately", change this to "Start printing after last page is spooled".
