Verifying that data has been written to the magnetic stripe

Article ID: 23088056

Topic or Information

How do I read back the encoded data on my mag stripe to make sure that it is there?

Applies To

All Zebra Card Printers with Magnetic Encoder

Symptoms addressed by this solution include

  • Need to verify encoded data.

Printer's encoding process includes verification of encoded data on the mag stripe.

This should not be necessary. The printer's encoder will write the data to the card's magnetic stripe, and it will also automatically read and verify the encoding to assure the data is correct.

  • The printer will not allow a card to be printed once a card has failed its encoding process. The printer's red light will then blink to indicate that the encoding process has failed, or the LED will display the error. The failed card will then be ejected from the printer with no printed image.
