The ^LL ZPL command (Label Length) is intended to be used to specify the label length in dot rows when using CONTINUOUS Media. The ^LL will be ignored if you are using NON-CONTINUOUS gap/mark media. The printer will calibrate and measure the label length in those instances during calibration and there is no need to include the ^LL in the label format.

Using the LL command in a Stored Format (DF)

If you are using CONTINUOUS Media and storing the Label Format (^DF) the ^LL can reside in either the stored format or the recall (^XF). However, the printer will only honor the last ^LL received before the first data field ^FS in the recall format.

For example, a stored format (^DG) has a ^LL1000 and is used followed by a (^XG) format with the ^LL1200 after the first ^FS (Field Separator). The printer will set aside the print map of 1000 and start to process the image ignoring the ^LL1200. Placing the ^LL1200 before the first ^FS will allow the printer to use the 1200 correctly.

Incorrect (Note: ^LL is after the first ^FS)

^XGMyFormat^FS
