Zebra Technologies Showcases ‘Triple Key’ to Unlock Future of Public Safety

Public safety organisations will succeed with critical communications, mobile digitisation via rugged mobile computing along with digitised asset tracking and management

BOURNE END, England – 10 May, 2023 – Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), a leading digital solution provider enabling businesses to intelligently connect data, assets, and people, will demonstrate a ‘triple key’ of technology solutions to unlock the digital future of Europe’s public safety sector at Critical Communications World (CCW) to be held in Helsinki, Finland from 23-25 May, 2023.

Today’s European public safety professionals, including police, ambulance, fire and rescue, and military are faced with changing and challenging expectations, greater volumes of data, budget scrutiny and the rapid pace of technology developments. Addressing these challenges and opportunities needs to be underpinned by the acceleration of digitisation across operations to improve communications in the field. Zebra proposes a ‘triple key’ of technology solutions to enhance critical communications, provide front-line personnel with new levels of mobile digitisation via rugged mobile computing, and equip them with digitised asset tracking and management.

“Across Europe, we’re seeing emergency services organisations increasingly turn to rugged handheld devices to give professionals in the field a ‘digital desk’ with the connectivity and applications they need for operational work wherever they are,” said Oliver Ledgard, Public Safety Strategy Director, EMEA, Zebra Technologies. “Asset-heavy services like fire, police and military are turning to handheld computing and radio frequency identification (RFID) to track and locate assets to eliminate lost time, supplies and equipment and help ensure better emergency responsiveness.”

One example is Spain’s police which utilise Zebra L10 rugged tablets, giving them a handheld mobile technology solution in their vehicles. They can check vehicle and personal IDs, photograph, and scan documents, capture evidence, check arrest-list databases, and digitise their field operations. The tablets have eliminated the need for paper-based processes and time-intensive trips to the police station as these activities can be done in real time, providing logistical and time efficiencies.

In the UK, Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service utilised a solution featuring Zebra’s, fixed RFID readers and mobile computing to optimise the distribution, management and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), saving more than £600k over the 10-year lifespan of the PPE. And a recent logistics transformation project for the military by Zebra partner Nuffield Technologies utilising handheld computers, software and services resulted in an 83% reduction in time taken to conduct daily equipment account checks at each site across hundreds of locations, and a 93% decrease in the time taken to receive pallets.

Zebra also notes the importance of modernising communications networks such as the European Union’s BroadWay and BroadNet projects and the rise of 5G for critical communications. “These developments will give public safety teams enhanced communication among colleagues and command centres with rapid, reliable sharing of information via 5G-enabled devices that will unlock and tap into modern critical communications for public safety professionals,” added Ledgard.

At CCW, Zebra’s team will highlight its collaboration with Norwegian headquartered partner Celerway’s GO - a portable, battery-powered mobile router which delivers gigabit class connectivity with VPN encryption virtually anywhere in a concise format that fits in a laptop case.

CCW delegates and members of the media are invited to meet the Zebra team at booth K80 for public safety product and solution demonstrations and media interviews.
