Weights and Measures Regulatory Requirements

For devices that incorporate a ‘Legal for Trade’ weighing or measuring instrument, Weights and Measures regulations place the responsibility on the device owner to operate the device in compliance with all laws and regulations and the applicable specifications, user guides and/or documentation for the device. Device owners and operators must properly maintain and use devices. Owners must notify their local Weight and Measures authority and follow any ‘Placing in Trade’ requirements prior to using the instrument to perform any measurement-based financial transactions. The use of non-Zebra software is the sole responsibility of the device owner.

The verification of a new or repaired regulated in-service measuring instrument is the obligation of the device owner and performed by government metrology authorities or by accredited service organisations by each country’s government.
