Our Commitment to Open-Source

Innovation at Zebra is driven by collaboration, and that includes leveraging the incredible work of the global open-source community. The products you use from us incorporate powerful, secure, and reliable open-source software components. Zebra is committed to transparency and to fulfilling our obligations under the software licenses applicable to these open-source components. This page serves as a central resource for you to find detailed information regarding open-source components utilized in Zebra products, license information, and attributions.

Understanding the Licenses

Many of Zebra’s products contain both Zebra’s proprietary software and open-source software. Each has different terms that govern its use.

  • Zebra Proprietary Software: Governed by the license agreement you entered into when purchasing the product or a license to standalone software.
  • Open-Source Software: Licensed under publicly available terms (e.g., MIT, Apache, BSD). These licenses grant specific rights but also have conditions, such as providing attribution to the original author.

To see the licenses for a particular Zebra product, please use the selection tool below. Alternatively, navigate the graphical user interface of the software to "Legal Notices" or a README file associated with the product. For certain products, Zebra maintains internal software component inventories to support license compliance and security risk management. Availability of component information may vary by product and version.

Access to Source Code

For certain open-source licenses, we are required to make the corresponding source code available. We are happy to provide it to you. For some Zebra products, the source code is resident on the product's installation media or supplemental product media. Please reference the "Legal Notices" or similar information provided with the product for details on the availability, location, and method for obtaining the source code. Alternatively, you may send a written request, including the Zebra product name and version, the open-source component name and version, and your contact information, to:

Zebra Technologies Corporation
Legal Department, Open-Source Software Director
3 Overlook Point
Lincolnshire, IL 60069 USA

We will respond to your request with instructions on how to obtain the code.
