Founded as a local carpet manufacturer, Terza has grown into one of the region’s leading producers of artificial turf, blinds, commercial carpeting and hardwood flooring, while also offering wall coverings, vinyl flooring and laminate flooring.
Terza wanted to modernize its inventory identification and traceability system to increase operational efficiency, improve real-time visibility, and enable faster, more accurate customer deliveries.
From major stadiums to homes, Terza has established itself as a leading brand for innovation and quality in flooring and surface solutions across the Americas. Founded as a local carpet manufacturer, Terza has grown into one of the region’s leading producers of artificial turf, blinds, commercial carpeting and hardwood flooring, while also offering wall coverings, vinyl flooring and laminate flooring.
Today, its innovations are transforming spaces across countless homes and businesses. As its operations continue to grow, the company is constantly evolving its processes to maintain high standards of service and efficiency.
“We handle a high volume of orders every day, so we are constantly looking for tools that allow us to operate with greater accuracy and agility,” says Yolanda Chávez, IT Leader at Terza. With Zebra RFID technology and support from MAP, the company set out to strengthen inventory traceability.
Always at the forefront of technology and innovation, Terza set out to modernize its inventory identification and traceability system, particularly for its carpet rolls, to improve visibility throughout the entire production chain.
In high-turnover environments, where products are moved frequently and inventory undergoes intensive handling, durable labeling plays an important role in operational efficiency. Recognizing this, the company saw an opportunity to improve certain physical aspects of its traditional labeling and adopted Zebra Technologies RFID solutions, integrating them seamlessly into its existing processes.
Working with MAP, an RFID specialist, Terza automated the identification of carpet rolls from the moment each unit leaves the production line, with data fed directly into SAP to provide complete, real-time visibility.
Today, with RFID technology, rolls can be located immediately and inventory accuracy has reached 98%. We now have virtually complete control over our inventory.
The project began with a pilot involving 60 rolls, conducted across the production plant and warehouse. Different label types and configurations were tested to ensure optimal performance under real-world conditions.
To replicate real-world conditions, where operators may need to locate rolls stored up to five meters away, the team tested different devices and antenna configurations across multi-level shelving. Following the tests, Terza deployed MC3300 RFID Series Mobile Computers, whose integrated antenna proved effective across different storage heights. “The mobile computers were powerful enough to read tags even from the highest shelves,” Chávez confirms.
ZT400 Series Industrial Printers were also installed alongside the production line, allowing operators to encode, print and apply RFID labels to each finished product as soon as production was completed. The team also optimized label placement to ensure consistent reads throughout the operational cycle and help the labels withstand frequent handling and environmental conditions.
“From label selection to printer selection, MAP supported us every step of the way, providing expert and transparent guidance. We made a great team,” says Chávez. “From the very first tests, we saw clear improvements in process speed and accuracy,” she adds.
With the adoption of RFID, Terza significantly enhanced its processes. The integration connected captured data directly with SAP, providing real-time inventory visibility and reducing reliance on manual processes.
Operators now label each product as soon as it is ready. Once the rolls reach the warehouse, employees verify and register them using Zebra MC3300 Series RFID Mobile Computers, which can capture multiple tags in seconds without requiring line of sight.
Tasks that previously required multiple validation steps can now be completed in seconds through bulk reading. “Using the mobile RFID reader, we can scan an entire container in a single pass. Our shipping team gets immediate counts of what is being loaded, shipped and received,” says Chávez.
At the same time, tasks such as loading, receiving and replenishment have become faster and more reliable, as each roll is automatically recorded and tracked at every stage of the workflow. “Today, with RFID technology, rolls can be located immediately and inventory accuracy has reached 98%. We now have virtually complete control over our inventory,” Chávez adds.
One of the most significant improvements is expected to come from the annual inventory count, with the time required projected to drop from several days to just a few hours, helping maintain operational continuity while keeping data available virtually in real time.
Beyond day-to-day operations, real-time visibility has also strengthened decision-making across different areas of the business. “Today, we have more accurate information that allows us to better align our sales and marketing strategies with actual inventory availability,” says Valeria Guerrero, Marketing Leader at Terza.
This accuracy allows the company to anticipate needs, adjust campaigns and respond more quickly to market demand, improving the customer experience and helping ensure on-time delivery.
At the same time, access to reliable data at every stage improves responsiveness to customers and allows teams to focus on higher-value tasks, directly contributing to greater operational efficiency and cost optimization.
Building on these results, Terza is already considering expanding the solution into new areas and introducing fixed RFID readers to further automate logistics processes, particularly at key points such as loading docks.
“Implementing RFID represents an important step in our continuous improvement and operational transformation strategy. Our employees trust the technology, and our customers notice the difference. Today, we operate with greater efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness,” Chávez adds.
What began as an initiative to strengthen traceability has become a foundation for Terza to continue moving toward increasingly connected and automated operations that support the company’s growth. “It has been a significant change. Zebra RFID technology has marked a turning point for Terza. It reinforces trust and shows how innovation can transform operations,” Chávez concludes.
