Tire Identification and Inspection

Automotive plants face the challenge of identifying and inspecting tires as they arrive with low-contrast, black-on-black sidewall markings and changing tire identification numbers. These tires come in random rotations and positions. Conventional 2D vision misses embossed and debossed features. This can lead to mistakes and may require rework. To address these issues, advanced technologies like 3D profiling are used. These techniques capture detailed surface features, adjust for mold-wear variations, and normalize tire rotation. The systems effectively verify sidewall data and tread patterns on the production line, enhancing the accuracy of the first-pass yield, speeding up the manufacturing process, and ensuring compliance with standards.

Zebra AltiZ 3D profilers capture embossed and debossed sidewall detail on low-contrast rubber. This is important for ensuring that fine details are accurately captured, especially on materials like rubber that might not have high contrast. Multiple sensors can be used in parallel to give full tread coverage. The system reads the tire identification number (TIN) plus molded brand, model, and size despite rotation or pose changes.

Enhance visual inspections with advanced tire analysis and defect detection

Aurora Design Assistant facilitates visual inspections by enabling manufacturers to identify and verify tire features, detect defects, and analyze materials with high precision using its flowchart-based integrated development environment (IDE). The platform supports tasks such as reading and verifying alphanumeric information (e.g., manufacturer codes and DOT data), geometric model-finding to compare tire features against predefined models, and material analysis for recycling decisions.
