An artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot is an automated system that interacts with users by providing responses based on either pre-defined rules or variations of machine learning (“AI Chatbot”). Zebra may implement AI chatbots on its website. Zebra will clearly indicate when users are interacting with an AI Chatbot. All AI Chatbots enabled on the website are designed for specific functions relevant to website end users. These AI Chatbots are domain-specific and specifically trained to understand only Zebra-related information; they are not general-purpose AI systems or large language models (LLMs).

Zebra takes great care to ensure that the enablement of AI Chatbots is reliable, safe, and auditable. Users must refrain from attempting or performing any Prohibited Conduct while using an AI Chatbot.

Zebra Technologies is committed to ensuring that our offerings and data practices comply with the EU Data Act (Regulation (EU) 2023/2854/EC). We understand the importance of data access, sharing, and protection, and we strive to uphold the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability in our data management processes. This site details Zebra Technologies Corporation’s data collection and access practices under the EU Data Act. Zebra customers that purchase connected products or related services in the European Union (EU) may access certain raw data that is collected or generated by our products under the EU Data Act.

DATA COLLECTION

Data in scope of the EU Data Act varies by product and customer configuration. Data is typically stored on-device or sent over a network for storage by the customer or Zebra. Customer data is stored until a customer agreement expires and then it is deleted or provided back to the customer in accordance with those terms. Data is retained as provided by the agreement with the customer for improving product performance and user experience. Zebra collects and uses data to fulfill customer agreements, provide support and warranties, ensure product safety and quality, improve and develop products (including AI-powered solutions), and create aggregated or derived datasets for lawful use without identifying individual data sources. Anonymous and anonymized data may be retained perpetually.

CUSTOMER ACCESS TO DATA VIA APIS, SDKS, AND DEVELOPER TOOLS

Zebra Technologies empowers customers to harness the full potential of their connected products and services by offering robust access to raw and processed data through a comprehensive suite of APIs, SDKs, and developer tools. Zebra also has an extensive forum on our Developer Portal where users can get personal assistance  in addition to the large set of documentation on these tools. These resources are designed to support a wide range of enterprise applications, from device management and data capture to analytics and workflow automation.

ACCESS THROUGH APIS AND SDKS

Zebra provides a variety of APIs and software development kits (SDKs) tailored to specific product categories, including mobile computers, barcode scanners, RFID readers, and printers. These tools enable developers to integrate Zebra device capabilities directly into their enterprise applications. For example:

EMDK for Android and Xamarin: Enables Java and C# developers to build applications that leverage Zebra mobile computer data.

DataWedge: A built-in tool that allows data captured by Zebra devices to be easily routed to any application without custom coding.

RFID SDKs: Provides access to RFID tag data and reader configuration.

Printer SDKs: Facilitate capturing data related to label, receipt, and card printing through Zebra’s Link-OS platform and card-printer-specific utilities.

Savanna Data Services: Offers cloud-based APIs for accessing real-time and historical data from Zebra devices, including status, and sensor data.

DEVELOPER TOOLS AND DATA FEEDS

Zebra’s Developer Portal provides extensive documentation, code samples, and utilities to support integration and development. Customers can use tools like the Enterprise Browser (for HTML5-based apps), StageNow (for device staging and configuration), and Secure Storage Manager (for secure data handling across apps). These tools allow customers to access and utilize raw data streams from Zebra devices in real time or batch formats, depending on the use case.

Types of Data Available

Generally, the types of data accessible to customers vary by product and service but generally include:

Device telemetry: Battery health, network connection, device usage statistics, and operational status.

Sensor data: Temperature, humidity, and motion from IoT-enabled devices.

Barcode and RFID scans: Raw and processed scan data.

Print job data: Status, errors, and odometer values from Zebra printers.

Location and tracking data: From Zebra’s real-time location systems (RTLS) and Bluetooth beacons.

DATA ACCESS

Zebra Technologies offers a robust suite of APIs and SDKs designed to make data from our connected products and related services readily accessible to customers. When customers enable and choose to share data using our built-in data agents, that can be leveraged at the enterprise level.  Through these tools, customers can seamlessly integrate Zebra's data into their own systems to enhance functionality, optimize workflows, and drive informed decision-making. Our APIs enable the connection of software applications with data platforms, allowing customers to harness the power of machine learning, analytics, and cloud computing. The Zebra Developer Portal serves as a gateway for customers to access these tools, where they can obtain API keys and documentation to facilitate integration.

The type of data available varies widely across different products and services and how they are deployed. For instance, with our RFID solutions, analytics data and event logs can be accessed to track asset movement and inventory levels in real-time. Similarly, for mobile computing products, customers can access operational data such as application usage, network events, and battery health through APIs, enhancing device management capabilities. Our cloud-based subscription services allow for further aggregating and analyzing data from multiple sources to provide actionable insights and improve operational visibility.

Nature, Estimated Volume, and Collection Frequency of Data

Zebra hardware collects and process various types of data through our connected products and associated data services. To get detailed information regarding the nature of the data and estimated volume and collection frequency of the data our devices, please contact your Zebra sales associate or refer to the Zebra Techdocs for more information on Zebra Data Service (ZDS) agents or subscribing to Visibility IQ.

Generally, when purchasing Zebra hardware and related data services, log data and raw data collected by the hardware typically involves the following broad categories as applicable:

Nature of Data Collected

• Device Build ID: Includes device model number, Android version, and build ID.
• Device Serial Number and usage data.
• OS Image, LifeGuard, Security Patch Levels applied.
• Available RAM and Device Storage (Flash) health information.
• Battery Information and Health.
• Connection Events for Wi-Fi (WLAN), Cellular (WWAN) if applicable.
• Data Traffic Statistics for Bluetooth, Cellular, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.
• Location Data (Cellular, GPS, Wi-Fi) - Note that GPS and WLAN location data collection is disabled by default for privacy protection.
• System and Zebra App Info and Usage.
• Scanner Information and Usage Statistics.
• Reboots initiated by the system or apps.
• Application Not Responding (ANR) Events.

Collection Frequency

• Data is typically collected by the Zebra Data Service (ZDS) agent continuously and uploaded to Zebra's analytics database every 24 hours by default. This interval can be adjusted using configuration changes such as barcodes scanned by the device. Different Zebra product categories have collection frequencies that are either configurable or tailored to the use case and application.

Estimated Volume

• The data volume largely depends on the device and usage, but generally varies from around 5 Kbytes per day from a printer for data metrics to hundreds of megabytes for camera-based scan applications. Other devices might generate varying amounts of data. Again, different Zebra product categories have collection frequencies that are either configurable or tailored to the use case and application.

For more detailed analytics, our Zebra Savanna and VisibilityIQ Foresight subscription services provide insights on customer data utilization and device performance.

When using other Zebra connected products, such as scanners or our robotics platforms, different types of raw data are collected, including machine data and metadata. The following is an overview of data types for Zebra handheld computers and LinkOS printers:

Specific Types of Data Collected:

1. Machine Data:
   • Device model number
   • Device serial number
   • OS Image, LifeGuard, and security patch levels
   • Available RAM and device storage information
   • Battery information and health
   • Connection events (Wi-Fi, Cellular)
   • Data traffic statistics for Bluetooth, Cellular, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi
   • Device Location data (Cellular, GPS, Wi-Fi) – GPS and WLAN location data collection is disabled by default for privacy
   • System and Zebra app info and usage data
   • Scanner information and usage statistics
   • Reboots and ANR (Application Not Responding) events
2. Metadata:
   • Network information (e.g., name or identifier)
   • Wireless signal strength
   • Event-specific information, such as event type and timestamp
3. Other Data Types (e.g., VisibilityIQ):
   • Utilization reports
   • Device health and performance insights
   • Geo-location data (if GPS is enabled and devices are connected to MDM)

Nature of the Data:

• Importantly, the collected data are primarily machine and usage data that provide no insight into a customer’s personal data, associates, or operations. Personal data, derived data, inferred data and customer data are not provided under the EU Data Act.
• Data collected is designed for product improvement, diagnostics, and operational insights.

REQUESTING ACCESS TO DATA

To ensure a seamless and compliant process, we have developed a specific form for requests under the EU Data Act. It is designed to capture all necessary details, ensuring that we can efficiently process your request in accordance with the EU Data Act.

For requests to access data under the EU Data Act that is not already delivered to customers via our Developer Tools, APIs and SDKs, submit a request using this form to make a formal request. Once verified, Zebra will assist entities entitled to receive such data in scope of the EU Data Act. We will process your request in accordance with the EU Data Act and, if the request is compliant, provide you with the requested data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format. Zebra is committed to working hand-in-hand with our customers and partners to validate the validity of data requests and ensure compliance with the EU Data Act.

Steps to Request Data:

Evaluate Your Devices: Identify the specific Zebra connected device or service you are using and their configurations.

Assess Data Requirements: Determine the type and volume of data you need based on your operational needs.

Submit a Request: Use our dedicated Data Request Form to submit your request. This form will guide you through the necessary details for Zebra to respond to your request.

Validation and Compliance: Our team will work with you to validate the validity of your request under the EU Data Act and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. We will work with your contact to fulfill the request.

Cloud Service Data Portability

To request cloud data portability, engage your customer support representative under your agreement with Zebra. Zebra cannot make technical assurances that data can be imported to other applications or ported to non-native cloud environments.

Escalating Concerns

If you are unsatisfied with our response to your data request or believe that we have not complied with the EU Data Act, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent authority designated pursuant to Article 37 of the EU Data Act. We are committed to addressing any concerns and ensuring that our data practices meet the standards of compliance and transparency.

Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA")

Zebra Technologies Corporation (“Zebra”) respects the intellectual property rights of others. Per the DMCA, Zebra will respond expeditiously to claims of copyright infringement on the website if submitted to Zebra's Copyright Agent as described below. Upon receipt of a notice alleging copyright infringement, Zebra will take whatever action it deems appropriate within its sole discretion, including removal of the allegedly infringing materials and termination of access for repeat infringers of copyright protected content.
