Conad Nord Ovest Reduces Its Warehouse Operational Costs with Zebra Technologies

Italian retail cooperative enhances operations by migrating to an Android™-based voice picking solution

MILAN, Italy – May 26, 2022 – Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), an innovator at the front line of business with solutions and partners that deliver a performance edge, today announced that Conad Nord Ovest, a cooperative from Italy’s largest independent retail organization has selected Zebra’s TC52 mobile computer and HS3100 wireless headset along with Itworks’ voice picking solution to improve operations at its Montopoli distribution center (DC). This flexible Android-based solution has reduced the cost of annual license maintenance and service fees by around 50%.

Conad Nord Ovest retail cooperative covers almost 600 sales locations in Northwest Italy, with over 18,000 employees, 1,700 local suppliers, and sales of more than €4 billion. With its previous Windows™ warehouse picking solution, Conad Nord Ovest relied on its technology provider to make any system changes to its DC operational processes. The company needed a new, competitively priced solution with the adaptability and scope for technological growth, and enterprise mobile devices from Zebra with the Android operating system (OS) fulfilled this need.

“The innovative warehouse solution from Zebra helped improve our DC worker voice picking accuracy and increased operational productivity,” said Stefano Innocenti, Information Systems Manager, Conad Nord Ovest. “Not only did we see operational benefits in our front-line workflows, but we also experienced a 30% reduction in the number of damaged units as we upgraded from wired to wireless headsets for our voice-directed picking solution.”

Conad Nord Ovest chose the vo-CE voice picking application offered by Itworks, a Zebra PartnerConnect Independent Software Vendor (ISV) partner, to enhance its DC order preparation system. This solution includes TC52 mobile computers and wireless HS3100 headsets, enabling systems changes and product additions to be made and managed in-house. Consequently, Conad Nord Ovest’s IT department can respond quickly to deploy new features and optimize workflows, for each season presents new challenges for the retailer.

“Our collaboration with PartnerConnect ISV partner Itworks enables us to deliver a leading retail warehouse logistics solution tailored to our customers’ needs,” said Andy McBain, EMEA ISV Manager, Zebra Technologies. “This helps retail cooperatives like Conad Nord Ovest to elevate their customer experience with smarter operations, resulting in faster service.”

This easy-to-use voice picking solution has halved the training time required for front-line workers, saved 15% of annual device maintenance costs, and provides a flexible mobile computing platform that can be used for other tasks beyond voice picking alone. Together, these benefits add considerable value to Conad Nord Ovest’s current operations and provide a roadmap that can fuel continued growth in the future.
