PT Dunia Express Transindo Significantly Increases Throughput with Zebra Technologies

One of Indonesia’s leading total logistics services providers digitally transforms its warehouses to address rising consumer demand

JAKARTA, Indonesia – Nov. 23, 2023 – Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), a leading digital solution provider enabling businesses to intelligently connect data, assets, and people, today announced PT Dunia Express Transindo (Dunex) has successfully introduced Zebra’s warehouse solution at its Sunter and Karawang warehouses to elevate its operational efficiency.

Living in a digital-first nation, the average Indonesian spends four hours a day accessing the Internet on their mobile devices, including shopping online, which is twice the average of the US. Today, up to 30 million Indonesians are transacting online, creating a market worth of at least US$8 billion. The market is further expected to grow to about $67.3 billion by 2027.

As one of Indonesia’s leading total logistics services providers, Dunex has vast experience in handling different types of cargo, including fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), electronics, textile, machinery, oil and gas, and project cargoes that require special handling and distribution to remote areas.

“At Dunex, we are always on the lookout for innovative ways to elevate our operational efficiency to better support our customers and their fast-growing businesses driven by the rising on-demand economy,” said David Jonathan, Chief of Information and Technology Division, PT Dunia Express Transindo.

To maximize storage space, Dunex stores its cargo on a racking system. This means the barcodes on the vertically stacked cargo boxes are often either out of reach or can only be reached with long-range scanners. To be able to scan these boxes, Dunex’s front-line workers must either climb up or bring the boxes down, which was both time consuming and inefficient.

Dunex is now using Zebra’s MC33xx series mobile computers and TC8000 touch computers which enabled their front-line workers to scan the cargo boxes  vertically stacked up at heights of around 5 meters from the floor. Powered by the familiar Android operating system (OS), the devices are easy to use and work seamlessly with Dunex’s in-house programs thereby enhancing their appeal to front-line workers.

As a result, Dunex has moved from handling about 5 tons of outbound deliveries per day to up to 10 tons daily, nearly doubling their productivity.

Dunex worked closely with Zebra PartnerConnect reseller, PT Autojaya Idetech (Autojaya), to implement and deploy the solution. Autojaya’s approach was to provide Dunex with the right warehouse solution that addresses their challenges. After understanding the business challenges faced by Dunex, Autojaya collaborated with Zebra to come up with a tailored solution that delivers the desired outcome of optimizing operational efficiency.

“According to Zebra’s 2023 Warehousing Vision Study, warehouse decision-makers surveyed around the world (76%) say they are under pressure to improve performance while adjusting to shifting consumer e-commerce demands,” said Eric Ananda, Indonesia Country Lead, Zebra Technologies. “Warehouse decision-makers are augmenting their front-line workers by automating their warehouses to ultimately optimize their operations and increase their inventory visibility. In fact, some are even planning to deploy more advanced technologies like radio frequency identification (RFID) to help increase inventory visibility and reduce out-of-stocks in the foreseeable future.”
