Zebra Helps Fundación Cardiovascular de Colombia Reduce Medication Administration Times by 40%

Hospital lowers the impact of patient misidentification while increasing health workers productivity

BUCARAMANGA, Colombia – Feb. 7, 2023 - Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), an innovator at the front line of business with solutions and partners that deliver a performance edge, today announced that Fundación Cardiovascular de Colombia (FCV), one of the largest hospitals in Colombia, has improved patient safety, security and care with an identification solution from Zebra.

FCV deployed a modern, comprehensive solution including Zebra DS2200 scanners, ZD510 desk-printers and patient ID wristbands. The technology has helped the hospital improve patient identification, reducing the risk of medication, transfusion and testing errors. It has also lowered the number of procedures conducted on the wrong patient. Using the Zebra solution, the hospital has increased the accuracy of patient care by 98%.

“With a goal of continuously improving internal operations and promoting digital transformation, we decided to implement a cost-effective solution that helps us enhance patient care, traceability and staff productivity,” said Victor Castillo, President at FCV. “Thanks to technology from Zebra, our hospital has reduced medication administration times by 40% and medical staff is able to spend more with patients, improving their level of care and overall experience.”

In addition to strengthening patient safety measures, automated identification technology helps FCV boost patient experience and satisfaction by streamlining interactions and protecting their personal data. It has also enabled the hospital to integrate medical and administrative processes, bolstering its tracking and security capabilities.

FCV worked with Zebra PartnerConnect Premier channel partner, Etimarcas, who provided consultancy while identifying the right solution and helping to deploy it.

“Etimarcas and Zebra support healthcare administrators looking to identify patients more accurately and securely, providing touchless verification and record-match at registration and points of care,” said Carolina Aguirre CEO from Etimarcas.

The hospital is leveraging this technology to achieve Stage 7 HIMSS certification, which measures clinical outcomes, patient engagement and clinician use of electronic medical records (EMR) technology to strengthen organizational performance and health outcomes across the patient community. This deployment enables FCV to better track data related to its patient, asset and medication identification and ultimately improve its operational workflows.

“Zebra’s patient identification solutions help enhance safety, reduce errors and elevate the quality of care by accurately identifying patients, medications, specimens and hospital assets,” said Felipe Behar, Sales VP and General Manager of Zebra Technologies in Colombia. “Zebra offers a full suite of purpose-built healthcare technology solutions to facilitate better care collaboration, improved communications and optimized workflow efficiencies throughout the patient journey.”
