Scan 1D and 2D barcodes, whether they’re printed on a label or displayed on a phone. Capture DotCode and dotted DataMatrix barcodes through cellophane, as well as the tiny and dense barcodes found on jewelry tags. Read wide barcodes on packages and cartons in the backroom.

You can even collect data from IDs and travel documents using Optical Character Recognition (OCR), or parse driver’s license information for age verification, returns monitoring, loyalty and credit card applications. Zebra’s DS4308 set the bar for decode range, and you can count on the same “can’t miss” range from the DS4600 Series. The DS4608-SR can capture UPC codes up to 28 inches away, enabling checkout associates to easily reach items in a customer’s shopping cart without leaving the cashwrap. The 800 MHz microprocessor, high-resolution megapixel sensor and Zebra’s exclusive PRZM Intelligent Imaging technology provide instant barcode capture on even the most challenging barcodes. And a patented rear engine design enables the DS4600 Series to read wider barcodes at every distance, compared to other scanners with a similar field of view. As a result, associates can focus on your customers, rather than positioning items.

Day-in, day-out dependability

The DS4600 Series is engineered for durability, inside and out. IP52 sealing protects against spills, while a patented double-sealed optical system guards the critical optical components from dust and liquid—ensuring that the ‘eye’ of the scanner always captures the sharpest possible barcode image for fast and reliable decoding. The recessed scan window protects against smudges, dirt and scratches, which can impact performance. And the scanner is built to survive multiple 6 ft./1.8 m drops to concrete and 2,000 tumbles in our punishing tumble test.

On-the-fly switching between handheld and hands-free scanning

Simply place the scanner in the optional presentation stand to automatically switch to hands-free mode; then pick up the scanner for handheld mode—no change of settings is required.

Flexible feedback modes that work for any retail environment

The DS4600 Series offers multiple feedback modes including a good decode LED that’s visible from any position, a traditional beep tone with adjustable volume/frequency, and Zebra’s Direct Decode Indicator that projects the illumination on the barcode for instant visual confirmation of a successful scan.

Doubles as a document scanner

With a single press of the scan trigger, the DS4600 Series can capture images of checks and utility bills, and the DS4608-SR and DS4608-DL can capture full-page documents. Zebra’s Intelligent Document Capture automatically compensates for variations in lighting and squares up the image for optimum clarity.

Capture multiple barcodes with one press of the scan trigger

With Multi-Code Data Formatting (MDF), the DS4600 Series can scan multiple barcodes with a single trigger pull and transmit only the barcodes you need, in the order your application expects.

Single out one barcode from many

With Zebra’s Preferred Symbol, the DS4600 Series can capture and output only the preferred barcode, so workers no longer have to waste time physically covering nearby barcodes before scanning.

Deactivate EAS tags while scanning

Optional EAS support, available on the DS4608-HD/HL, allows associates to deactivate Checkpoint EAS tags while scanning the price, boosting productivity at the checkout and preventing erroneous alarms.

Streamline data collection with OCR

Let smart technology do the work. Support for OCR expedites the collection of data from ID cards and travel documents that may not have barcodes—speeding up checkout transactions in airport shops and other locations.

Capture driver’s license data

With one press of the DS4608-DL/HL’s scan trigger, cashiers can capture and parse data information on driver’s licenses to automatically populate a loyalty or credit card application, verify age for age-restricted purchases, process a customer’s return and more.

Easily deploy and manage all of your scanners

123Scan, a complimentary DataCapture DNA tool, is intuitive enough for first-time users. You can easily create configuration barcodes to program scanners, update firmware or stage a large number of devices. If your scanners are in multiple locations across the country or around the world, you can use the complimentary Scanner Management Service (SMS) to configure and update the firmware for any DS4600 Series device that is plugged into a host. No depot staging or user action is required—such as the scanning of a configuration barcode.
