Use Case

Micro-label printing for electronics components and miniature parts

In the manufacturing industry, micro labels create outsized operational pain because a tiny shift causes scrap, rework, or line stoppages. The ZT610 printer, combined with Z-Supreme and Z-Ultimate labels, solve this challenge with precise, automation-ready capabilities.

A technician in a manufacturing facility uses a Zebra ZT610 industrial printer to produce high-definition labels for intricate electronic components during the assembly process.

The high cost of small errors in micro-labeling

Micro labels create outsized operational pain because even a 1 to 2 mm shift can ruin a label and cause scrap, rework, or line stoppages. In high-end manufacturing such as electronics, solar, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, precision is vital. A high-end electronics manufacturer printing tiny ID labels for miniature components often finds that labels drift after calibrations. This causes misprints and rework, complicating the entire process.

The negative consequences of this challenge are severe. Automation teams hesitate to move from manual application due to micro-label handling risk, keeping manual labeling as the mainstream. This leads to operational bottlenecks, high costs, and lost revenue as print quality and peel-mode confidence act as barriers to automation adoption.

The precision micro-labeling solution

The ZT610 printers, paired with Z-Supreme and Z-Ultimate, work together to address the identified challenge and deliver high precision printing and automation-ready process. This specific hardware and software solution provides the exact registration and stable handling needed to support automated application lines effectively.

How the solution works

A Zebra ZT610MLP industrial printer works with a robotic arm to automate the application of microlabels onto electronic circuit boards on a manufacturing assembly line.

Achieve ultra-precise label placement

The ZT610 600 dpi micro label printer offers exceptional accuracy for tiny applications. It provides 600 dpi micro labeling with tight registration for labels as small as 3 mm. This product is the ideal choice for this part of the solution as its new front sensors easily detect smaller micro labels, keeping stock aligned and stable for accurate tracking of the smallest manufacturing parts.

Seamless application with Z-Supreme

Z-Supreme labels are an excellent solution for small and miniature component identification. Z-Supreme offers as small as 1/4" x 1/4", such as the Z-Supreme 2000T SKUs, to meet the requirements for small components within electronic devices. Z-Supreme labels, including 2000T, 2100T, 3000T, and 4000T, are specifically engineered for high-temperature and industrial applications. This includes electronics manufacturing, PCB wave soldering, and automotive manufacturing. They offer smear and scratch resistance, excellent chemical resistance, and can withstand extreme temperatures up to 572°F / 300°C for certain labels.

Durable labels for identification of miniature parts

Z-Ultimate, like the Z-Ultimate 3000T, provides durable tracking by offering resilient identification for miniature parts. They offer excellent adhesive quality and print durability that can withstand smearing. When paired with genuine Zebra Resin Ribbons, these materials provide reliable, scratch-resistant tracking, perfect for the demands of electronics manufacturing. Z-Ultimate also withstands harsh temperatures and moderate chemicals like alcohol and bleach.

Future-proof your investment

Investing in Zebra's micro-labeling solution reduces costly scrap and rework, accelerates production cycle times, and enables a confident transition to full automation. This strategic move enhances operational efficiency and protects your bottom line.
