 About VTS

VTS, a leading pharmaceutical logistics provider based in the Netherlands, is setting new standards for quality, efficiency and sustainability in the industry. By upgrading its fleet technology with rugged Zebra mobile devices – implemented in collaboration with Actemium – VTS is preparing for the future and enhancing service quality in the Benelux region.

The Challenge

Managing temperature-controlled storage and international pharmaceutical transport is complex. With three locations and a growing delivery network, VTS faces constant pressure to ensure precision, consistency and safety in every aspect of its business – including its technology.

“Our drivers, warehouse staff and IT teams all depend on consistent, stable technology,” VTS Director of IT Projects, Innovation and Strategy, Nick Lenting, explains. “But our existing on-board computers weren’t flexible enough, and reliability was becoming a challenge.”

To stay ahead, VTS needed a modern, unified platform that could meet the demands of both regional drivers – who needed scanning and navigation capabilities - and international logistics. The goal: support drivers and warehouse staff with reliable tools that streamline workflows, improve accuracy, and reduce downtime. The solution had to be robust, flexible and scalable. It also had to integrate seamlessly with FleetGO, VTS’s preferred logistics software platform, which plays a critical role in managing the company’s driver workflows and load visibility.

With these devices, we can communicate clearly with drivers, avoid unnecessary delays and operate more efficiently overall.

The Solution

VTS partnered with Actemium, a trusted Zebra reseller, known for logistics automation expertise. After evaluating several technology options VTS selected Zebra. “We needed a reliable hardware platform to run FleetGO, our preferred logistics software,” said Lenting. “Actemium helped us evaluate the options, and Zebra offered the right combination of quality, manageability and cost efficiency.”

Together they deployed Zebra TC27 mobile computers and ET45 tablets, and Zebra DNA Cloud for centralized mobile device management. This approach allowed VTS to standardize its technology across operations, making it easier to manage devices, deploy updates remotely, and provide consistent user experiences for staff on the road and in the warehouse, as well as supporting a broader rollout of connected capabilities.

With Actemium’s hands-on support during implementation and configuration, each device was tailored to the practical needs of different user groups, whether on the road or in the warehouse.

The Zebra Difference: Outcome and Benefits

The impact has been immediate. According to Lenting, there are fewer errors, with device-related malfunctions dropping to nearly zero, preventing costly downtime. For the IT department, management has become simpler thanks to Zebra DNA Cloud driving device management efficiency, saving time and strain on the team. Employee satisfaction is higher and they have praised the stability and user-friendliness of the Zebra devices. More importantly, Zebra’s platform has further enhanced service quality. Drivers can now scan packages upon delivery (using FleetGO’s own Data2Track technology); confirm locations, times, and deliveries in real time; and manage routes more efficiently, all while reducing paperwork and speeding up workflows. It’s not just a hardware upgrade; but a fundamental step forward in operational effectiveness and readiness.

“Thanks to the uniform setup, we no longer worry about fragmented devices or inconsistent configurations,” says Lenting. “And with the five-year repair and warranty agreement in place, we are confident that we will be fully supported in case of any issues.”

VTS has committed to reducing CO₂ emissions by 60% by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050; and Zebra devices are playing a significant role in VTS’ ambitions. “With these devices, we can communicate clearly with drivers, avoid unnecessary delays and operate more efficiently overall,” said Lenting. “Additionally, fewer replacements and solid repair support ensure a lasting lower environmental impact.”

Zebra device reliability means fewer replacements and repairs for VTS, reducing electronic waste and environmental impact. More efficient communication and fewer delays also contribute to shrinking the operation’s CO₂ footprint.

The rollout of Zebra mobile technology is ongoing, with more devices and cloud-based inventory systems planned. By consolidating onto a single, scalable platform, VTS is preparing for future growth without sacrificing flexibility. “With the reliable Zebra devices and expert guidance from Actemium, we have integrated our systems,” says Lenting. “We now have a solid foundation for efficient and sustainable logistics processes.”
