Grupo Colón Gerena Enhances Food Management Operations with Zebra Technologies

Modern warehouse solution increases worker productivity by 92% for leading franchisor of fast-food chain

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – May 20th, 2021 – Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), an innovator at the front line of business with solutions and partners that deliver a performance edge, and Multisystem, a PartnerConnect Premier Business Partner, today announced that Grupo Colón Gerena (GCG), the leading franchisor of Wendy’s in Puerto Rico, selected a Zebra mobile computing and printing solution to increase supply chain visibility and helps ensure food safety and traceability.

To increase consumer confidence in the safety of its food, GCG replaced its paper-based operations for a modern warehousing solution that can efficiently track stock, pick orders and increase inventory accuracy. The food supplier selected a mobile solution comprised of Zebra’s MC3300 rugged mobile computers and ZT230 barcode label industrial printers with Multisystem’s warehouse management system (WMS).

“By modernizing our warehouse operations with the Zebra-Multisystem solution, our workers’ productivity increased by 92%, and we boosted our operational efficiency to levels never reached before in our business,” said Ramón Vásquez, CTO of GCG. “Zebra’s mobile devices and printers provide our associates with real-time visibility, enabling them to monitor expiration dates to help ensure food safety and transparency for our customers.”

“The Zebra-Multisystem solution has reduced the number of human errors and enabled us to improve our inventory management,” said Wendy’s Supervisor Maribel Soto. “Product distribution is now easier and most importantly, we have increased the delivery speed of our in-store orders to improve our customer experience.”

The MC3300’s long-range scanning capabilities have helped more than 3,500 GCG front-line workers rapidly locate products to reduce order processing time and improve fulfillment accuracy and quality control. With Zebra's Mobility DNA and Print DNA suite of applications, utilities and tools, GCG has flawlessly integrated real-time data with its new WMS to maintain proper inventory levels and offer key information about products and expiration dates in a timely manner.

“According to Zebra’s Food Safety Supply Chain Vision Study, more than 80% of surveyed consumers said companies have an important role to play in implementing food safety solutions and an ethical responsibility to ensure the safe handling of their food,” said Daniel González, Sales Director for Zebra Technologies - North of Latin America. “Zebra’s mobile computing and barcode printing solutions offer a performance edge to front-line workers by improving food traceability and enabling an efficient, transparent supply chain that boosts customer confidence.”
