Snappy will allow easy and immediate UHF RFID compliance to existing on-field and new Ikôn devices

London, 15 March 2011 – Psion (LSE: PON.L), a global provider of mobile computing solutions, and CAEN RFID, a leading European supplier of UHF RFID products, today launched Snappy, a new UHF RFID reader with an integrated antenna. Developed by CAEN RFID for short range applications, the device snaps on to the bottom of the Psion Teklogix Ikôn and provides it with UHF RFID read and write capabilities from a distance of up to 50cm. The Snappy reader is powered and controlled directly by the Ikôn, allowing the device to read of EPC Class1 Gen2 UHF RFID tags.

The core component of the Snappy reader is the new CAEN RFID Quark module, which is both the smallest and has the lowest power consumption of any module currently available on the market. The same software interface allows operation of the Snappy reader in multiple languages enabling retailers, transport companies, warehouses and other global organizations to use the device in multiple countries and languages as required.

“The Snappy UHF reader provides the best data capture and communication features currently available on the mobile market” said Pierre Bonnefoy, director of RFID Solutions at Psion. “It is now possible to combine RFID UHF reading with GPS, picture capture and barcode reading along with UMTS, WiFi and Bluetooth data communication, in an incredibly small device.”

“We are very proud to continuously contribute to Psion’s success as a global mobile solutions provider” said Giovanni Grieco, Business Development Manager, Embedded Products at CAEN RFID. “The new Snappy is an ideal device both for existing customers of the Ikôn, or for new customers wishing to integrate UHF RFID in their data capture processes.”

The Snappy is available from March 2011 through Psion’s network of distributors.

CAEN RFID is a leading Italian company in the design and production of RFID UHF readers and tags. A totally in-house expertise on Radio Frequency electronics and related Software, together with its active involvement in the EPC Global and ETSI work groups have allowed CAEN RFID to provide readers and tags which are in the vanguard of existing technology.
